Nora Gomez-Dears has over 23 years of dance teaching experience and over 9 years as a Certified Pilates Instructor. Nora obtained a B.S. in Physical Education and Dance from the University of Wisconsin, Madison and participated in graduate studies at Antioch University in Keene, NH specializing in Dance Movement Therapy and Counseling Psychology. Nora founded and operated The Academy of Movement in Nashua, NH from 1990-2000 that developed into a successful dance studio with a student body of over 450 students.
Nora began to study Pilates as a young Ballet dancer in Puerto Rico at the age of 13 with Lolita San Miguel, one of the two people ever certified by Joseph H. Pilates. She continued to expand her Pilates knowledge by acquiring her first Pilates accreditation through the PhysicalMind Institute under the tutelage of Mary Bowen, another one of Joseph Pilates proteges. Nora has collaborated with many of today’s top Pilates Master Trainers such as Alex Garcia, Shelly Gayer, Michele Larsson, Kathy Van Patten, Bob Lieken, Susan Moran to name a few.
Nora is an International Senior Teacher Trainer for Power Pilates. In 2003, Nora was selected by Power Pilates Inc. to become their first Spanish-speaking Teacher-Trainer as well as the second Teacher-Trainer for the New England Region. For the past 3-years, Nora has provided International training for Power Pilates in Mexico, Puerto Rico and within the Continental US. As a Teacher-Trainer, Nora accredits instructors from Beginner Mat to Comprehensive Certification. Some of Nora’s current projects with Power Pilates involve filming/presenting Power Pilates in Spanish on their on-line library and continuing to support the Spanish evolution within the Power Pilates.
Additionally, Nora has provided Pilates and Ballet training at Boston Ballet, Massachussets Youth Ballet and other local dance studios in New England. Nora is also a member in good standing of the American Red Cross, Pilates Method Alliance and IDEA.
